I just picked up a nice used blower, and from another source, a MSPNP. Does anyone have some instructions they could send my way? I'm pretty excited about getting this thing on next weekend. I was driving for the first time on the highway and tried to accelerate in 3rd gear. Nothing happened. I lvoe the car but if I don't get more power, I don't think I'll have it for very long! Thanks!

I'm pretty sure the extra 100WHP will make a tiny bit of a difference. (Your 1st and 2nd gear will feel non existant)

well guys, I got the thing all the way installed. Now I just have a tuning problem.
It seems like the engine chokes around 2,000rpm and will not accelerate past that unless its WOT. Its not that the engine cuts off, but it is like you just let off the gas. I'm really at a loss as to what it could be. I'm running the elf, and if I unplug it, its even worse. The previous owner had no issues, so I don't think its the programming, or a bad unit. Plus, its BAD. It is 100% undriveable. It idles great though, so I really hope someone can explain what I can check for. I have the ford throttle body, and the vacuum IS hooked up to the elf. To the best of my abilities, I see no leaks... Also, my belt... It is wanting to come off the front part of the pully. It ends up being on 5 ribs, with the other rib hanging out on the front of the car side of the pulley. I can't figure out how to fix it, however it seems to like to stay there, and never gets any worse than just the one rib. its almost like it wants to be on that side of the autotensioner, which brings me to this point. The wheel of the auto tension rubbed on the powersteering pulley, so I put a washer behind the big nut... Today when I start the car, I will take a picture. I'm sure that you guys can pinpoint it and tell me what I need to do to correct it. I know thats probably going to be simple. My biggest thing right now is the tuning of the engine... someone please help! (Thanks in advance) ____________________________ '96 C-Red Miata with MP62 |

YAY! its fixed! Well, kind of...
Basically, the tps is giving a bad reading to the ECU. I don't know why, and thats a project that I can work on later. I unplugged it, and besides for a 1200rpm idle, it freaking runs great. Right now I have to figure out why the belt is coming off towards the front. I'll post a pic in a second, but its jumping off the last rib or two, and I just can't figure out why. ____________________________ '96 C-Red Miata with MP62 |

Things that stick out to me on your setup are:
Nose pulley looks to be stuck out (larger than normal gap between back of pulley and nose of blower). The pulley shaft looks to be just flush, or just inside, of the nut holding the pulley on. Is there a spacer back there, or is it loose and slid forward? Can you see they key on the shaft sticking out the back side of the pulley center hole? The pull strap bar for the power steering tension assembly has washers behind it. There's normally a solid spacer there, but I guess if the washers combined thickness is about right then it would be ok. Just pointing out variances here. There are washers between the auto tensioner mount plate's standoffs and the blower nose mount plate. This makes me think that either 1) the standoffs are too short 2) someone turned down the original (longer) standoffs. 3) The M10 bolts going through the nose mount plate are too long, bottoming out in the standoffs and leaving a gap, thus someone put washers there to take up the gap vs. getting shorter M10 bolts (which would allow the standoff to snug up to the nose mount plate... and thus bring the auto tensioner closer to the blower and PS pump). The M10 tapped side is only so deep before it intersect the M8 tapped side. First thing I'd look at though is the nose pulley. The washer/spacer issues could have been something the PO did to get it to work on their 94-97 car (there seems to be more odd ball clearance issues with the 94-97 power steering than the 99+ cars, IMO). ------------ James FM MP62 Supercharger, non-IC, OEM TB, JR Header, RB Duals |

James, thanks very much for your reply. I will check the nose pulley if it ever stops raining tonight.
The pull strap does have washers. The key here, is that the guy who used the kit before me did not have power steering and had never used the bracket. My guess is that he didn't receive the proper spacer from BRP, and just never noticed it. I used washers to fix the spacing, and I measured them when I assembled it and its virtually perfect. The tensioner does have washers behind it. I had to use them... There was plenty of bolt length to put them in, and they provide a perfect amount of clearance to the power steering pulley, which the auto tensioner wheel was rubbing on. In essence, these standoffs are just a tad too short for me. Also, I bet you can help me out with another problem... I have the Ford throttle body and the machined piece that adapts to the Mazda TPS. Do you have any sort of documentation that would tell me how to set this thing up? I'm not sure if I installed it right, but I can't rev the car past 2k without having HORRIBLE hesitation, almost like its hitting the rev limiter. With it unplugged, it runs good, but has a little higher of an idle due to the TPS not kicking in... Also, right now I have the 5psi pulley and am using the elf. I have a mega squirt PNP that I am going to install prior to the 8psi pulley. Do I need to change my timing manually when I put the mega squirt on, or do I leave it stock, and control it with the MS. (if you know) Thanks very much James! This message has been edited. Last edited by: Carl, ____________________________ '96 C-Red Miata with MP62 |

Alright, the belt issue is fixed. Basically I needed to move the blower forward about a 1/6th of an inch, and this also was able to move the tensioner out a bit farther also which will enable me to take the washers off. All thats left is to figure out how I am going to tighten up the throttle cable without making it too tight to drop down to idle (it was locked in full throttle for about 2 seconds until I could turn the ignition off a few minutes ago on my "test ride") and I need to get that TPS set up. I also think there was a little bit of pinging in the upper rpms, but I won't be driving the car anymore until I get the MSPNP on it, so that shouldn't be an issue (after I get the tps fixed).

Yayz... it was miss adjusted. I have to tweak it one more time, and it will be solid. I also need to adjust the throttle cable and maybe grease it up a bit to get a little smoother of a retraction. Other than that, this weekend is megasquirt and 8psi pulley weekend...
Does anyone know where I can get a good base map for a mp62 charger with the 110mm pulley? (basically FM's stock kit) ____________________________ '96 C-Red Miata with MP62 |
