The miata may come out of hibernation this week-end to get inspected. In the next week or so I'm replacing the air/water exchange unit from the old JR unit to a bigger PWR unit that should pass more air and lower the boost backup at that point. I'll continue to run with the old powercard (ie pre PRO) as it puts me in a rich conditionunder boost and get to a dyno just to see what's going on. I did that in S.C. when I had a smaller pulley put on along with the ELF. At that point it only pulled 178 RWH but showed a leaning condition above 6500 even then. After getting home i put the powercard back in but really don't know what A/F I may be at now. The "duh" di throw me bu now I understand it was no attack, just your frustration over the paperweight we both own.

Well... very disapointed here. If there's something positive, I hope SOT will put their nose in this thread and rectify the shot because that's product killer news to me.

Only response I had was that it was more difficult to rectify than previously thought. The Barkers have done all they could to figure out and resolve the conditions. An outside organization was approached to "evaluate the ELF's condition and viability. When and If it can be fixed will depend greatly upon their findings and opinions on the unit" That speaks volumes about the unit. If ELFtech has a better answer, I'd like to hear it.

With the business deal between SOT & FM, one wonders if this will finally be the demise of the ELF. I can't believe FM would pick up this torch.

FM has simply agreed to look at it for us. Honestly, they're looking at it because I've requested it for those BRP customers who've had problems. I don't forsee FM picking up the ELF, but I guess anything is possible depending upon what they find.

I just want to be clear, Barker Products inherited the ELF problems. Jeff Barker has never sold or made $0.01 on an ELF. At my urging he had agreed to try and figure out what was wrong with them for those customers. At the beginning the thinking was it could be quickly fixed as the first ELFs do work out there. The kits would then have their EM back. Two things were discovered. One, a minor and easy to fix board issue was found on some ELF units. Two, BRP had asked the supplier for software value changes. At some point, those changes were not cutting it. Not sure if it was a failure to test for long enough, or if they were even tested at all. The ELF supplier was told to make "X" changes to the software and they did just as they were told. If it's just a matter of chips, then Jeff was willing to have them done and shipped to the customers. The board problems, if they existed, would be sent back to the supplier and they'd fix them at no charge.

FWIW, ELF Tech got left holding the bag on orders shipped and work done for BRP. Yet despite being out quite a bit of money, he came here to try and help (and still is helping us), willing to fix the boards for free, and do the chips for a discount to Barker Products. Barker Products has paid for the test chips, bought ELFs to send to the test group, and paid for shipping etc.. Once a software solution determined, then he was actually willing to buy those chips and send them to those with problems.

For all of those customer's sake, I hope FM determines that the latest chip ELF Tech and Jeff Barker worked out will be one they can use. Actually, the guys at FM are pretty smart, and I'd love to hear back from them that not only does it work, but it can be made into the viable product that BRP hyped it up to be... even if it only does 1/2 the stuff that they hyped it to do. But understand that FM also is doing this testing as a favor.

Look guys, my car is sitting in the shop without EM too. I sent what Powercards I had out to customers with bad ELFs. I even sent my own personal Powercard out to a customer to use. I've been building these supercharger kits since the first production units, and I still don't have a kit running on my car. My car has been sitting down there for months. I find it funny that as long as I've been building these kits and competing against FM, now once my kit does get running it'll actually be an FM supercharger kit.

James,
If the early ELF worked and it was determined that only a chip is involved on units like mine, what is the possibility of getting an early chip? If it worked at some point without all the bells and whistles, give me a vanilla chip just to get it working. Also if not breaking priviledge, what company was involved in this development? I'm sure there are others like me who would like to know how this thing went from a working item to a time bomb. Was a name company behind the development of was it done in someones garage?

I'm one of those with a working ELF, so I can confirm that at least one of them works as designed.
The first one I got with my kit was holding an injector open, causing flooding when I first fired the car. BRP replaced it and it's been working well ever since.
The only issue I have with it is the mixture goes overly rich (11.0-11.5/1) at low RPM (under 3000) when adjusted for proper mixture at the top end.

I have not used the car a lot since I installed my coldside with the ELF (non-identified version). The car has not been tuned on a dyno but few CEL brought me to investigate the ELF only to find out that I probably have one of these chips that get stuck into diagnostic mode at boot-up.

It's bad because the few occasions when the ELF boots properly, the car drives fairly great. A friend (Jean) lent me his "on the shelf" ELF 2.3.2. There's no such diagnostic issue but the car suffers various hickups which were not present with mine.

Recommandations ?

Thanks !

Hey SOT, how about I trade you my never used ELF for a 6 rib upgrade. Seems fair to me.
